VIDEO: Hydrogen-powered vehicle launched
A GROUND-BREAKING project to tackle carbon emissions with a new hydrogen-powered car has been unveiled.
HydroGen4, the fourth generation of Vauxhall’s hydrogen-powered cars, has been manufactured in Canada and could be available by 2015.
The launch at Vauxhall headquarters in Luton was part of the government’s UK H2Mobility project to develop clean hydrogen fuel cell technology for cars.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles are a cleaner travel alternative as they do not release carbon emissions, instead releasing only water vapour.
With new technology the cars can also boast many of the same mod-cons as petrol or diesel cars, such as air-conditioning and heated seats. They have a top speed of 100mph, an estimated 310 miles of travel between re-fuelling and take only three minutes to fill up fully.
Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall’s director for government affairs and public policy said: “The successful roll-out of these vehicles will now depend on the availability of hydrogen to the consumer in a real life environment.”

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 02:10 PMWe all realise the oil co; have us by the Boils. When will we start producing "Bio Fuel" ? you can get it on the Continent ?. Those who reject Bio, have invested in oil. We must break this hold that Oil has on us. Just think it might help in World peace.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 11:06 PMStuartea... You are right, no point in transporting hydrogen by tanker to a petrol station..... however a step change in infrastructure has recently happened using British technology called HFuel that makes hydrogen on site at the point of use, using existing infrastructure of water and electricity. The company is ITM Power, and I recommend a look at their website. Www.itm-power.com. They can use HFuel to make hydrogen from renewable energy too, so when ever renewable energy is generated and demand is low, renewables can be put to good use in making a transport fuel... The company's hydrogen on site trials show that the cost of hydrogen will compete with high street ful prices, as well. Thiis must provide the reassurance Vauxhall must be banking on with their fuel cell van... ITM Power are also part of UKH2Mobility.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 05:19 PMIsn't the problem with Hydrogen vehicles the same as Petrol? You still have to truck and delivery the hydrogen to various stations to fill up?
