The man who set the agenda for a generation
MEETING Joe Strummer, on at The Old Town Hall, in Hemel Hempstead, on Saturday, March 13, is a passionate punk comedy spanning three decades about attitude, friendship and celebrity.
It is presented by The Future Is Unwritten, a touring theatre company that is powered by punk values of honesty, integrity and inclusion.
It creates work that explores issues of popular culture, politics, spirituality, responsibility, injustice and respect.
In Meeting Joe Strummer, which is written by creative director Paul Hodgson, it's 1978 and Nick and Steve see The Clash for the first time headlining the Anti-Nazi League Carnival in Victoria Park.
Joe Strummer and The Clash's potent mix of politics, soulful rock'n'roll and iconic imagery inspire the lads to take an oath to stay true to the values embodied in that day.
The comic play charts Nick and Steve's attempts to maintain their oath while living through Thatcherism, paying bills and maintaining relationships but Strummer's unexpected early death forces them to question and re-evaluate their lives.
Tickets are available on 01442 228091.
