Still no start date for Lidl

German supermarket chain Lidl are keeping tight-lipped over construction work start dates for their Berkhamsted store.

So far no building has begun on the Gossoms End site, even though the Roy Chapman garage moved out in November after 41 years.

A Lidl spokesman said: “We are due to start standard on-site remedial works, for example conducting an archeological survey in the near future, and construction will follow from that but we don’t have a firm date yet.”

The controversial plans got the green light from Dacorum Borough Council’s development control committee by just one vote in September 2014, despite more than 350 residents signing a petition against the supermarket moving into the town.

On the other side of the coin, more than 700 people signed a petition in favour of it – and they should get their wish by the end of the year.
