A special needs school’s fundraising efforts for a new hydrotherapy pool were given a boost this week with a £3,000 donation from a local retail giant.

Woodfield School, in Malmes Croft, Leverstock Green, needs to raise a total of £350,000 to replace its ageing hydrotherapy pool, which is used daily by all of its pupils.

Many pupils have additional complex needs including autistic spectrum disorders and sensory impairments, so the hydrotherapy pool helps with the children’s physical and social development.

The latest contribution to the fundraising pot came from the Amazon fulfilment centre in nearby Maylands.

The school was nominated as the chosen beneficiary by members of Amazon’s charity committee in Hemel Hempstead.

To celebrate the donation, several members of the Amazon Hemel Hempstead team visited the school to meet some of the pupils who will be using the new pool once it has been refurbished.

Henry Low, general manager at the fulfilment centre, said: “When we found out that the school was raising funds for a new pool, our charity committee in Hemel Hempstead jumped at the chance to help with the donation.”

Woodfield’s deputy head Beverley Hamilton: “The pupils and staff are incredibly grateful to Henry and his team from Amazon in Hemel Hempstead for the kind donation, which will help in our ambition to refurbish our pool.

“On behalf of everyone at Woodfield, I’d like to say thank you to the team at Amazon for their support.”
