Festive celebrations have given an end-of-year boost to Herts Society for the Blind.

Herts Community NHS Trust has donated £574 to the charity, from the sale of raffle tickets at the trust’s fifth anniversary celebrations and during a festive ‘bring and share’ lunch at trust headquarters.

The charity will use the money towards publishing its newsletter and a social club for people with sight loss.

Outreach support worker Vanessa Macdonald said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this money. It will go to very good use, adding great benefit to the lives of local visually impaired people.”

Sandra Weir, who ran the ‘bring and share’ lunch, said: “We invited Vanessa to the event where she gave staff a short speech about the work they do. Staff were very generous and we are pleased to be able to contribute in this way.”

Herts Society for the Blind meets on the second Thursday of the month from 2pm to 4pm at Guessens Grove Hall in Welwyn Garden City.
