Police warning over '˜bogus' door-to-door antiques dealer

Reports of a bogus antiques dealer in Berkhamsted have prompted Neighbourhood Officers to warn residents.

The man in question is described as white, in his 60s, with dark brown hair, and was wearing a brown suit with a tie.

He has been knocking on doors and asking to be invited in to have a look at and value any antiques, particularly jewellery, before offering to buy them.

He has targeted vulnerable elderly residents.

Officers have asked people to be ‘very careful who they open their door to’, as well as being vigilant on behalf of elderly or vulnerable
neighbours or relatives.

Two members of the public who have been spoken to, have described this male as very ‘businessman like’.

Police say if anyone sees this man or similar persons, they should call 101 and explain what they have seen, with a description of clothing, where they were seen, what time and the registration numbers of any vehicles being used. Alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
