The county council has received the £11.6million windfall alongside Luton Borough Council, Peterborough City Council, Bracknell Forest Council and West Berkshire Council.

The cash will be used to try to replicate the Hertfordshire Family Safeguarding model in the four other authorities.

Over the last two years, Herts has developed a more effective and efficient child protection service. Contrary to national trends, between January 2015 and November 2016 Hertfordshire has saw a 49 per cent reduction in the number of children with child protection plans.

Richard Roberts, cabinet member for children’s services at County Hall, said: “Everyone who has had the opportunity to experience our new approach is impressed by what we have accomplished. The incredible outcomes we have achieved so far are a testament to our belief in the radical changes we adopted.”
