Neighbours have spoken of their shock after the death of two people in a quiet Berkhamsted street.

Herts Police were called to the address in Highfield Road, Berkhamsted, at 11.34am on Thursday (June 23) after reports of concerns for the welfare of two people.

Officers forced entry to the property alongside the ambulance service and discovered two people inside who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their deaths are being treated as unexplained at this time.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “They were two people who kept themselves very much to themselves. They had only been there about a month and I had never spoken to them.

“It’s such a shock. It’s not something you ever expect to have happen opposite where you live, but I came home this afternoon to police outside their house, and officers knocking on every door speaking to everybody.”
