A team of Dacorum Borough Council workers have come up with a wheely good way of fundraising for the new mayor’s charity of the year.

Assistant directors Dave Austin and Steve Baker, countryside access officer Clayton Rae and tree officer Luke Johnson will be cycling up iconic French mountain roads in aid of the Chilterns MS Centre, the chosen good cause of incoming borough mayor Allan Lawson.

The bikers, who have been in training since September, will also have logistical support from the council’s benefits team leader Matt Kelly during the event next Saturday and Sunday.

The challenge will both be physical and mental, as they will be taking on two climbs often used during the Tour de France, including an eight and a half-mile climb at Alpe d’Huez.

Mayor Mr Lawson said: “I am pleased to announce that one of the early fundraising events to be organised for my charity has been set up by officers of this council. This is a marvellous gesture and I wish the team well.”
