Swimmers have taken to the world wide web to express their disgust at the cleanliness of Hemel Hempstead’s AquaSplash leisure pool.
Recent contributors to review website Trip Advisor slammed the Jarman Park pool complex for its ‘dirty’ and ‘disgusting’ facilities and lack of complaints procedure.
Only three of the 141 reviews rated the pool as ‘excellent’, with more than half giving it a ‘terrible’ rating.
Some users also expressed their disbelief at the fact the leisure pool remained open.
One said: “There’s only one word that can describe this place – FILTH!
“I am totally amazed that this so-called leisure pool is still open and people continue to pay money to go there.”
Another said: “I have never seen a more disgusting, dirty, manky sight in my life!
“There was mould dripping onto my back and used tampons everywhere, hair floating in the water and two pigeons pooing everywhere.”
Another user said: “I can’t help but think that the management have absolutely NO pride in their establishment, or that they sit blissfully and naively unaware in their ivory towers off-site somewhere.”
A member of the public approached the Gazette after visiting the pool in August.
She said: “I arrived with my son and friend to find the pool area inhabited by pigeons, food still left from day before and ketchup squished on to floor. Hygiene in the pool area is very, very poor.”
Dacorum Borough Council confirmed that it had received a complaint from the member of the public, and inspected the water quality in August as a result.
Group manager for regulatory services Chris Troy said: “We have recently sampled the swimming pool water at Aqua Splash and the report came back from the Public Health England laboratory as satisfactory.”
AquaSplash had failed to respond to repeated requests for comment when the Gazette went to press.
