More than 120 school pupils with a flair for writing have entered an essay competition run by the Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club.
The Young Essay Competition is part of the club’s programme of work with the youth, and for this year’s theme entrants were asked to write about what they would do if they could change their school’s rules.
Four of the town’s schools took part, with all participants in Year 6.
The winner was announced as Charlie Little, with Connie Smith coming second and Holly Lockhurst joint third. The three budding authors received book tokens while Charlie, of St Cuthbert Mayne, scooped a cash prize for his school.
The Rotary Club’s Martin Horsted said: “The entrants had some quite imaginative thoughts about how they would improve their school – I think the subject really struck a chord. The standard of essays was really good, and the final judging was quite difficult.”
All children who took part received a certificate.
