A lucky romantic won a couples’ getaway worth £500 after becoming inspired by his girlfriend’s favourite pop group.

Zac DeCambre, 24, penned a meaningful message to his partner Hayley Oakes, 21, and entered it into Riverside Shopping Centre’s Valentine’s Day competition.

Zac’s winning entry, which had to be 15 words or less, read: “8 letters. 3 words. 1 meaning. I love you.”

The construction worker from Surrey, who often visits Hemel Hempstead to shop, said: “Hayley and her family are quite big fans of Take That so I sort of took some inspiration from them. But it has a true meaning, and I think it speaks for itself.

“Hayley will be over the moon as she doesn’t quite know what is going on at the moment. We are going to have a takeaway tonight, but this has really made her Valentine’s Day more special.”

A banner with his heartfelt message was displayed on the balcony at Debenhams.

Riverside centre manager David Robinson said the contest is the first of many to be run at the shopping destination this year.

He added: “We thought we would kick off 2013 with a Valentine’s Day competition to give away a fantastic prize for two, and spread a bit of love in Hemel.”

Zac does not know where he will whisk Hayley away to yet, but will discuss it with her so she can enjoy the prize even more.
