For some golden oldies in Dacorum this year marks not only a century since the outbreak of war, but also their own 100th birthdays.
Nellie Ida Waterton, known as Ida, celebrated becoming a centenarian at Robin Hood House care home in Little Gaddesden, where she was joined by a further three generations of her family.
Ida (pictured) said: “I am 100 years old, I’ve got all my family here, and I couldn’t wish for more.”
Earlier in July Maude Sharpe, who moved to Hemel Hempstead in 1953 and worked at John Dickinson’s card department for many years, had a party for her 100th birthday in Alexandra House care home.
The home’s activity co-ordinator Mandy Swindells said: “This lovely lady’s determination never fails.
“She is always bringing a smile to those around her, with her quick wit and humour.”
