Pupils at Tring School got the chance to vote for their peers in the Youth Town Council elections.
The school borrowed the voting booths and ballot boxes to recreate the real experience. Assistant head Andrew Dobberson said: “It’s part of their political education as it prepares them for voting. It teaches them that to have a say, they need to vote.”
Youngsters were encouraged to stand by coming up with two policies and visiting forms to spread the word.
Year 8 pupil Max Guest triumphed with his policies – more awareness for people with special needs, and fair media representation for young people – which won him 580 votes. The youth council meets once a month at the Market House on Tring High Street.
