An eight-year-old bookworm is pledging to read his own height in novels within just seven months in order to raise money and awareness for a charity helping his unwell uncle.

Charlie Sturtivant, of Adeyfield, ia taking on a sponsored read-a-thon in aid of Crohns and Colitis UK, which supports his uncle who suffers from the chronic disease ulcerative colitis.

At the start of this year, Broadfield School pupil Charlie set himself the task of reading his height – that’s a whole 52 inches – in books by the end of the school year on July 18.

His parents Luke and Hayley helped him set up a donations page online with a fundraising target of £50, but the selfless youngster smashed the total within hours and is now approaching his new target of £200.

His parents said: “The whole family are super proud. This was something Charlie decided to do for his uncle. He loves reading already but it is amazing that he can read so many.” Visit justgiving.com/charlie-sturtivant to donate.
