Skydive for road safety charity

Sarah Filby, aged 27, has roped in her best friend, Stefany Abson, also from Tring, to join her in a skydive on June 25 in memory of Sarah’s husband, Dan, in aid of the road safety charity Brake.

Dan Filby died in September, at the age of 28, while riding his motorbike along the A406, leaving behind Sarah and their two young children.

Office manager Sarah said: “Time numbs the pain, with life carrying you forward, but I think of Dan often and there isn’t much I wouldn’t give up for him to still be here.

“I know there’s nothing I can do to bring him back but what I can do is to try and stop other lives from being lost in similar circumstances.

“I’m supporting Brake because they campaign passionately for safer roads and offer support to those who have been affected.

“In the days and weeks that followed the accident, Brake offered both emotional and practical support.

“Trying to explain to my children, what had happened and why their Daddy wasn’t coming home was the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to or possibly will ever do.

“As someone who likes to keep their feet firmly on the ground, this challenge will place me completely out of my comfort zone.

“By raising funds for Brake, they will be able to continue to support people like me – family and friends like mine who have been affected by a loss on the roads.”

Brake’s community fundraising manager, Lisa Kendall, said: “We greatly appreciate the support of volunteers like Sarah and Stefany.

“We wouldn’t be able to continue our life-saving work without the help of our fantastic fundraisers.”
