Hertfordshire Independent Living Service (HILS) is the new name for Hertfordshire Community Meals, the service set up in 2007 with the support of Herts County Council to deliver meals on wheels across the county.

Since then, the organisation has grown to become the largest meals on wheels provider in the country, serving half a million meals every year to people in their homes and lunch clubs.

Starting with seven employees, it now employs nearly 200 people, with 66 white cars travelling the county 365 days a year.

Now HILS has launched a new website, and everyone who signs up to its newsletter before the end of August is being entered into a prize draw to win a week’s worth of hot meals with desserts.

The new website shows the range of services provided by HILS to help older and vulnerable people stay healthy and independent at home.
