An alleyway robbery in which jewellery was snatched from a teen’s neck as she wore it has sparked a police investigation.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and information about the attack which took place at around 9.30pm on Thursday, May 22, in the alleyway which connects Adeyfield’s Montgomery Avenue with Queen’s Square.

The 19-year-old victim had just visited a cashpoint when a man approached her from behind and forcibly removed a necklace she was wearing, before running away in the direction of Montgomery Avenue.

The robber is described as a man of slim build, wearing a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

The stolen necklace was a gold chain with silver ring containing diamonds and a purple jewel attached to it.

Det Con Caeva Taylor, investigating the incident, said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t seriously injured but was understandably left shaken by what happened.

“I would like to hear from anyone who may have noticed anyone acting unusually or suspiciously prior to or after this incident around the stated time in the Adeyfield area.

“Additionally, I would urge anyone who has been offered a necklace, similar to the one stolen, for sale, or knows of its whereabouts, to contact me straight away.”

Call Det Con Taylor on the police on-emergency number 101 citing crime reference D1/14/3050, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, with any information.
