Rare breed of cattle released in town park

Dacorum Borough Council’s Clean Safe and Green team have been working with Boxmoor Trust to bring belted Galloway cows from the Boxmoor Estate to the park, in Nash Mills.

The cattle, known for their distinctive white ‘belt’ and placid temperament, will help graze an area of the park known as Mattens during the summer months.

Mayor of Dacorum, Gbola Adeleke, cut the ribbon to release the cows into the park on Saturday.

Portfolio holder for environmental services, Janice Marshall, said: “It was a delight to see the cows happy in their temporary home.

“I encourage you to visit Bunkers Park as it’s a beautiful award winning open space and to see the Belted Galloway cows too.

“They will be there to graze till October and we are fortunate to have them in an area which is accessible by the public.

“They are animals with a placid temperament.”

Bunkers Park received the Green Flag award in 2015. Green Flag is a national government award designed to raise standards of management of parks and open spaces.
