Schoolchildren are being given the chance to have their lessons in the forest thanks to the Box Moor Trust.

Reception-age children from Hemel Hempstead’s Hobletts Manor school welcomed Dacorum Mayor Penny Hearn along to one of their fortnightly ‘Forest School’ sessions with the Trust, designed to build their confidence.

The visits encourage the pupils’ learning skills and allow them to explore the outdoors, with activities ranging from building shelters and mud sculptures to tree climbing and campfire cooking.

Mayor Hearn, after visiting the Trust’s headquarters, helped teach the children about badgers with the help of handpuppet Meles, and accompanied them on a teddy bear hunt through the woods.
