The end is finally in sight for Old Town businesses as Hemel Hempstead’s High Street is scheduled to re-open next week.
Though final works to the junctions with Queensway and Cherry Bounce are still set to continue until mid-May, the new one-way way system will once again be open to road users from Wednesday.
Liimited parking is now already available in the High Street’s St Mary’s Close car park, with access from the Piccotts End Road and the Fletcher Way end of the High Street. The site is where 19th century burials were discovered, pushing back the works.
A spokesman for Dacorum Borough Council said: “Plans are for short stay parking restrictions during the day, to allow shoppers to get parked.
“We will be including enforceable parking restrictions between 8am and 6pm, limiting waiting to 1 hour, with no return within 2 hours.
“These will be in place after the works are completed and Traffic Regulation Orders come into effect.”
