A schoolgirl who has already racked up years of service for the St John Ambulance has been given the honour of leading the annual St Paul’s Cathedral parade.

Broadfield School pupil Amy Hayward, 10, was charged with flying the flag of the voluntary organisation – for which she has been a badger since the age of six – for the annual service of commemoration and rededication at the London landmark.

According to her mother Karen, Amy never misses her weekly St John Ambulance sessions, no matter what.

She said: “This was a once in a life time opportunity for Amy, especially as she is due to move up within the St Johns Ambulance family to be a cadet.”

The Hemel Hempstead badgers meet on Thursdays at the St John headquarters on Crescent Road. The group will enjoy its five-day badger and cadet camp next month.
