A huge duck race on the Grand Union Canal helped raise £1,794 for charity yesterday evening.
Hundreds of ducks took part in the challenge, which took place outside of Berkhamsted’s The Rising Sun pub. Entry was £1 and all of the profits went to the town’s Swan Youth Centre.
Writing on social networking website Twitter after the event, Henry Sharpe said: “Brilliant duck race, fantastic service and beers - great cause.”
The winning duck was number 982, and he helped owner Miles Wood win the first prize of £60.
Coordinator Clare Muir said: “It was a great event with so many people turning out to support it.
“I would like to say a very big thank you to all the local businesses who donated raffle prizes, The Rising Sun for hosting the event, everyone who helped on the day and to everyone who bought a duck!
“The money raised will go a long way to help us continue to run the youth centre and support the young people of Berkhamsted.
“If anyone is interested in founding out more about the work we do and would like to visit the centre, please do get in touch. Ring 01442 384349.”
