As the official launch event for the redesigned Old Town nears, Dacorum Borough Council has revealed details of the High Street’s pièce de résistance – a set of specially-commissioned wrought iron gates.

The Hemel Evolution team commissioned the design as part of the improvements, and they will be used to close the road to traffic for events such as the Old Town Street Festival on July 19.

A council spokesman said: “They are designed to capture the heritage value of the High Street in black wrought iron to blend in with materials already used. The gates themselves are a simple style, each including a circular sketch of an important landmark building from the Old Town – St Mary’s Church and The Old Town Hall theatre.”
