MP says: '˜Tanks for the memory'

Mike Penning MP arrives in a tank to open the Dacorum Steam Fayre

In marked contrast to last year, the annual steam fayre enjoyed great weather, ensuring a good turnout and a good time for all who attended.

The steam fayre, which took place at Green Croft Farm in Potten End, attracted a large number of traction engines, farm machinery and static displays.

Mike Penning arrived to officially open the fayre in a FV432 armoured personnel carrier which he later got a chance to drive around an empty field.

He said: “I congratulate Dawn Bunker and her team of organisers of this wonderful event. It is a great day out and Angie and I had a very enjoyable afternoon.

“It was great to have a chance to drive the 432 around an empty field after the opening.

“It must be 30 years since I last drove one but I was impressed how quickly the skills all came back to me.”

The Dacorum Machinery and Steam Preservation Group has donated more than £125,000 to the Hospice of St Francis, in Berkhamsted, since the event began nine years ago.
