A new school for Hemel Hempstead has officially named and an executive principal has been appointed.
The organisation behind the planned Highfield school - West Herts Community Free School Trust - has announced that the new venture will be named Jupiter Community Free School.
It comes following consultation with the public, prospective parents and other stakeholders.
Project manager Susan Poole said: “This name reflects the history of the site and the location of the free school.”
The new school will be based in Jupiter Drive and is on the site of the former Jupiter Drive Primary School - closed in 2007 by county bosses due to dwindling numbers of children.
Planning permission was granted for the project on Wednesday and the executive principal heading up the school will be Dr Sue Attard.
She is already the principal at the trust’s Hatfield Community Free School and will now be dividing her time between both schools.
Susan said: “Sue will bring the same high standards to Hemel Hempstead as have been established in the Hatfield school where children achieve and thrive.”
Work will be starting on the Hemel Hempstead school site shortly but the first intake of pupils will start their education in September at a temporary base within Astley Cooper School, before transferring over to the newly built school around Easter time next year.
