A gardener from Hemel Hempstead, has successfully grown sunflowers to the dizzying height of 11ft, thanks to the good weather we’ve been blessed with recently.

John Wise, pictured here up a ladder measuring his prized flowers, called the Gazette to report his blooming marvellous plants.

When asked if there was a secret to their sudden soar, John said: “I’ve simply watered them twice a day, and added a dash of Miracle-Gro. They’re the tallest I’ve ever had.”

John’s plants haven’t quite reached the staggering heights of the 23ft ‘Eiffel Flower’ grown in Margate, Kent back in 2011, but we still have high hopes for them yet.
