Roll up, roll up – Carter’s Steam Fair will be the focus of all sorts of family fun in Boxmoor tomorrow – and you can enjoy all the thrills at a discount price.
The famous fair is a popular annual visitor to Hemel Hempstead, and it will be open for business from tomorrow through to Sunday at its regular home alongside St John’s Road.
Included in this year’s attractions is the restored 78- year-old Jungle Thriller, also known as The Lost Ark – and anyone 78 years old or above can ride it for free, as long as they’re ready for thrills and happy to supply proof of age.
Carters is proud of its reputation as most enchanting fun fair on earth, a living piece of history which still serves up family fun in the 21st century.
Many of the vintage rides date back more than a century and in the case of the famous Gallopers carousel all the way back to 1895.
It’s been a labour of love for stock car driver John Carter and his family.
It was in 1976 that former art student John saw and fell in love with the Gallopers that still form the centrepiece of the Carters experience.
He pestered the owners for weeks until they finally sold them to him, and John’s dream started to become reality.
Over the years Carters Steam Fair has grown and grown, and now boasts by far the finest collection of vintage fairground rides anywhere in the world.
John sadly passed away in December 2000, but his legacy has been passed down to his wife Anna and her sons and daughters.
The fair tours regularly from March to October with the winter months spent restoring the fabulous rides and equipment and bringing them back to their former glory.
To encourage as many people as possible to enjoy this unique experience, Carters are offering a two for one ticket offer for anyone who buys their ride tokens online in advance – all you have to do is spend £20 or more to qualify.
