Hospitals take on 300 new nurses

West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust has employed more than 300 new nurses and midwives, in a bid to deliver the best care for patients at its hospitals in Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and Watford.

The men and women, who come from the UK, Europe and the Philippines, have all been through an extended induction process following a successful recruitment campaign both home and abroad last year.

They are now settling in on wards across the three hospital sites.

Many of the new recruits have been welcomed by the trust’s clinical skills facilitator, Sarah Griffin.

Sarah said: “I am really happy to have these new recruits on board.

“The nurses and midwives are committed and dedicated to helping us achieve our aim of delivering the best possible care to every patient who walks through our doors.

“I am looking forward to watching them develop their careers at our hospitals.”

Rosie Latham, aged 25, started nursing in the trust’s Acute Admissions Unit in November.

Rosie said: “I love it here at the hospital.

“I have always wanted to be a nurse and now I’m doing it.”

Lucian Miron, aged 24, from Romania, is working with acutely ill patients at Watford Hospital.

He said: “All the staff here are friendly and co­-operative.

“They are good people here and I want to continue my career here at the hospital.”
