Rush hour motorists may have been left puzzled this morning (Tuesday) when they passed Hemel Hempstead’s new welcome sign.
The brick and flint wall, which had displayed the words ‘Welcome to Dacorum Hemel Hempstead’, is now blank.
It has been removed so that the lettering can be reinforced.
The £6,000 sign, situated off the Breakspear roundabout, was due to be completed with the setting of specially made bricks last week but, due to delays with the contractor, the finish date has been delayed to this week.
The sign has been plagued with delays - its completion was previously put off after specialist bricks to finish the job were faulty and new ones had to be made, which took five weeks.
