Work to create a new Methodist church in Hemel Hempstead has stalled and now new building contractors are being employed.
Hemel Hempstead Methodist Church minister Rev Vindra Maraj-Ogden was unable to go into details about what has happened with the previous builders but said: “We are disappointed with the progress and are in the process of employing new contractors.” She revealed that very little work has been carried out on the Northridge Way site since last summer.
The church there was demolished in January 2013 to make way for a new place of worship, which was completed on time and within budget.
By April last year the contractors were running behind schedule due to adverse weather conditions and there was talk of increasing work days and hours.
Rev Maraj-Ogden said: “We would like to express our gratitude to the community for their concern, support and understanding during a difficult period in the construction of our new church.
“We are confident that our building will be ready at the right time to continue God’s work in this community.”
