A bus driver from Hemel Hempstead has been named ‘king of the road’ in a competition by transport firm Arriva to find the nation’s favourite drivers.
Chris Rumens, who regularly drives on routes 2, 3, 4, 320 and 500 in and around Hemel Hempstead and Watford, was highly commended by judges after being nominated by customers.
Chris said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be named ‘king of the road’ and it means so much more to hear I was nominated, and voted for, by the customers I see each day.
“Being a bus driver is not only about the driving, but also about taking people on a journey so it’s very important to engage with passengers, whether that’s remembering names, or even just a nod and smile, so I hope with this award I can inspire others to do the same.”
The award was designed to recognise drivers around the country who make a difference to customers and Chris was shortlisted from more than 150 entries, along with 10 other drivers, and put up for the public to vote.
