A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.

THE HEATHER CLUB

A club for frail and elderly people urgently needs help.

Patient volunteers with good people skills are needed to help out on either Mondays or Wednesdays at the Heather Club that runs from Carey Baptist Church in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead.

The club offers a caring and friendly setting where members who may have memory problems can enjoy socialising and a range of stimulating activities.

In the mornings, members and volunteers often play a range of table games then enjoy a cooked lunch before taking part in a sing along or trying out some armchair exercises.

The club runs from 10am until 3pm and volunteers can help for part or all of that time. Volunteers are asked for a commitment of at least six months.

The club also needs help from volunteer minibus escorts.

This role involves helping and supporting elderly and confused club members walk safely from their house to the minibus and back home again in the afternoon.

Pick-ups start at 9am and you would finish dropping members back home by around 4.30pm.

Volunteers can do collections or return journeys, rather than both, if preferred.

Hospice of St Francis

The Love to Give charity shops in Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead town centre are looking for new volunteers to join their friendly teams.

An interest in customer service, fashion, books or bric a brac would be useful but enthusiasm and reliability are more important.

As a volunteer shop helper you could be welcoming and serving customers, steaming or tagging donated items or helping to make the shop and stock look at their best. The shops provide vital revenue which helps the Northchurch-based hospice provide a wide range of services for people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

The lower age limit for these roles is 14.
