Kind-hearted commenters to this website have asked to pledge their support for a young boy whose prized toy Ferrari was stolen while he underwent surgery.

Hemel Today reported on Friday that the £300 plaything was stolen from Elle Shayler’s front garden after she rushed her eight-year-old son Matthew to hospital.

By the time Matthew had his appendix removed and was allowed to return home less than two days later, his ‘pride and joy’ red ride-on car had been taken from outside their Beechfield Road home.

Since the story was published, three people have asked whether they can contribute towards replacing Matthew’s favourite toy.

Mark F suggested the idea, posting: “Can the Gazette set up a way for us to contribute to give this lad a new car? I would contribute.”

PaulInHemel and DelTrotter shortly followed suit with both saying they would donate, but DelTrotter cheekily stipulated he’d want a ride in the replica supercar in return.

Matthew’s mum Elle, 38, said anyone who would wish to do such a thing can contact her directly using the email ncshay1976@hotmail.co.uk, to arrange.

She said: “It is amazing to hear that peole would like to give towards a new car for Matthew. You just don’t expect it.

“It goes to show that there really are some nice people around.”
