Fun for all at Big Lunch in Queen's honour

The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project that aims to get as many of the 63 million people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours for a few hours of community, friendship and fun.

Since it launched in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all kinds of communities - from street parties to picnics, with millions of people taking part each year.

Dacorum’s free fun day takes place between 11.30am and 5pm, at Queens Square and Reith Fields in Adeyfield on Sunday, June 12 – the same day as the nation celebrates Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

The event will include funfair rides, pedal go karts, charity stalls, arts and crafts and entertainment including a Royal Dress Up and a Royal Bake Off.

Contestants can bake a cake fit for a queen and take it along to Adeyfield Community Centre for judging. To enter the Royal Bake Off competition, email your name, age and contact details to [email protected]

There will be also be a mini Olympics on the day, with football, netball, 60m sprint, long jump, one-mile run and shot put.

Dacorum councillor Neil Harden said: “The Big Lunch is the perfect opportunity to have fun with your neighbours and encourage friendlier, safer neighbourhoods and to feed community spirit.

“We would encourage everyone to come along and make this a special community event while also celebrating Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday.”
