A shopkeeper has reported double takings on the day of the first Old Town market as traders finally put the misery of late running roadworks behind them.
The monthly Sunday market follows on from the High Street’s successful relaunch festival to mark the end of extensive refurbishment works.
Dacorum Borough Council group manager for strategic planning and regeneration Chris Taylor said: “We received some very positive feedback on the first of the Old Town markets both from traders and the Old Town business owners who saw an increased footfall to the area.
“One of the shop owners reported a doubling in takings which is great news for the local businesses.
“We’re looking forward to growing this event into a larger and more established market.
“The first one on Sunday was small and we expect it will take some time to build in both terms of traders and footfall and we hope visitors will support us as the market builds momentum.”
