Family-run cooking firm show that they can Khana succeed

A family-run business that brings together three '¨generations of cooks has been highly commended in the Best Newcomer category of the Hertfordshire Food And Drink Awards.

Khana Cooking Classes, based in Chaulden, teachlocal people how to cook 
authentic Indian dishes while emphasising on the health benefits of spices and fresh ingredients.

Sima Milligan, who runs the firm with her mum Rita, said: “I think people like it because we’re a mother-and-daughter team who run 
four-week courses - and on the final week my nan comes in and joins us too.

“Nan came over the the UK in the 1950s and originally lived in Liverpool - a lot of the spices she used to cook with weren’t available, and if she wanted to buy them she had to travel down to London.

“She’d be cooking, the neighbours would smell what she was making and she’d 
invite them in and show them how to make it themselves.

“Now mum and I are both qualified chefs and make the same authentic Indian 
dishes.”

Khana Cooking Classes run classes in venues across the county as well as offering home lessons.
