Deputy headteacher retires after 28 years

Helen Wignall, who has worked at Hobbs Hill Wood Primary School for the whole of her teaching career, will leave at the end of this term, after 28 years.

Many children and adults in Leverstock Green and Bennetts End will have fond memories of their time at school with Mrs Wignall.

A celebration of the time Mrs Wignall spent at Hobbs Hill Wood took place at the school’s annual open evening last Tuesday, when she was treated to an afternoon tea-themed party.

Cards and gifts were given from staff, pupils and parents, all expressing their fondness and best wishes for her retirement.

Messages included “The most wonderful teacher. We will miss you,” and “It won’t be the same without you.”

A beautiful bouquet of flowers in the school uniform colours of purple and yellow were presented and a slideshow of hundreds of children’s messages of goodwill were shown to staff and Mrs Wignall’s friends and family.

During an emotional speech, Mrs Wignall said: “I have such happy memories, from back when Hobbs Hill Wood School had separate infant and juniors, up until now where we now have more than 70 members of staff.

“All the children and staff are outstanding and I am very proud to have been part of this school.”
