Mayor of Dacorum Allan Lawson opens the newly-refurbished Co-operative store in Adeyfield

Adeyfield’s Co-operative store has reopened after a £370,000 refit –and celebrated the good news with balloons, giveaways and a visit from the mayor.

The grocery shop in Queen’s Square has been completely refurbished following an 18-day closure.

Coinciding with the relaunch, the store is piloting a new Community Pioneer role with local groups.

The new-look store is also extending its own-brand Free From offering – having added new lines to its range of flavoursome and high-quality foods that are free from wheat, gluten or dairy.

Dacorum mayor Allan Lawson and his wife Wendy were present at Thursday’s event, and were presented with a food hamper.

Councillor Lawson said: “We are delighted that the Co-op has decided to spend such a large amount of money refurbishing this store in Hemel Hempstead. The store is heavily used and serves an elderly population made up from the many sheltered housing schemes nearby.”

The Adeyfield Community Centre, for which the store supplies free tea and coffee, also received vouchers to spend in-store as a thank you for helping to declare the new-look food store open.
