Children set to start growing their own soup, after visit from allotment angels

Children at the Rudolf Steiner School will soon be growing their own soup, thanks to Sunnyside Rural Trust.

Kindergarten pupils and teachers at the Kings Langley school returned their Easter holidays to find the overgrown allotment had been transformed into a space for the children to grow their own produce.

The charity cleared the weeds, built raised beds, installed a greenhouse with water collection and made tables and benches out of donated wood.

The trust, which offers adults with learning disabilities work experience in various aspects of horticulture, gave its time free of charge, and the greenhouse was funded by Dacorum Borough Council.

Kindergarten teacher Suzy Brownson said: “It is such a delight to see young children digging up vegetables, washing and chopping, and making a delicious soup.

“Thanks to Sunnyside, we now are able to use this bit of land to its full. We are all very excited to see how well our new greenhouse will help us to grow many more plants.”
