Ben's long walk home for mental health charity

A Berkhamsted man is walking from Gibraltar to London, to raise money for a charity.

Former Ashlyns student Ben Ubly, aged 35, quit his job as a kitchen porter at Bon Soiree in Northchurch to fly out to Gibraltar on March 8.

He will be walking the whole way back to London – apart from the Channel. He expects the 1,500-mile trip to take three to four months, walking 15 to 20 miles a day, and is blogging as he goes.

Ben is raising money for mental health charity Mind.

Ben said: “I’ve suffered from bouts of depression throughout my adult life, and two years ago I found myself on a steepening downward spiral that soon became freefall. My friends and family caught me in time. It struck me that many people don’t have that same safety net, or perhaps don’t realise it.

“Mind offers that vital service, and so I chose to do something to highlight that.”
