Eighteen friends have set off for the most northerly tip of Europe in a convoy of nine Porsche 944 sports cars.
They set off from The Red Lion restaurant in Water End at 8.45am today and are now on their way to France through the Channel Tunnel.
They are hoping to reach Nordkapp in Norway in time for midnight on Saturday’s summer solstice after driving almost 3,000 miles.
Writing on the Facebook page that is mapping their progress they posted a photo of a sign pointing to France and said: “Bonjour, on y va!”
The phrase translates from French to: “Hello, here we go!”
Before that, they posted a photo of themselves in their Help for Heroes T-shirts and said: “Made it to The Tunnel ahead of time!”
They are taking part in the epic journey to raise money for Help for Heroes, which helps troops who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.
Most of the drivers come from Berkhamsted and Tring and each of their nine vehicles - built between 1982 and 1991 - will have cost less than £1,100.
