'˜A pedal-powered tribute to my much-missed grandad'

Jamie Hickman will tackle the London To Paris charity cycle this week, as a tribute to Alfie Hickman who died in November 2013.

He will be raising money for Peace Hospice Care after it cared for his grandfather when he had cancer.

Mum Mandy Hickman told the Gazette: “Jamie and Alfie were always close and they loved spending time together.

“Alfie worked as a gamekeeper on the Chilterbury Estate and would go shooting; the three of them – Alfie, my husband and Jamie – would love clay pigeon shooting together too.”

Jamie, who lives in Newlands Road, works as a trainee electrician for Clarkson Evans in Milton Keynes.

And cycling is just one of his sporting passions according to mum Mandy.

She said: “Jamie was so upset when he died, and was so grateful to the hospice, that he wanted to do something to say thank you.

“He loves so many sports, and he applied for both the London To Paris cycle and the London Marathon. He only got a place on the cycle ride, but I think he’ll keep applying for the marathon until he can do that for Alfie too.”
