Francis Oyile, whose ultimate ambition is to work within the airline industry, studied business, geography and sport, and is going on to study business management and economics at Nottingham Trent University.
He said: “When I was younger I was shy and not sure what I was going to do and feel good that I took part in extra-curricular activities such as the Interact Club, Dragon’s Apprentice, and Duke of Edinburgh as I have grown as a person.

“I’m looking forward to university.”
A third of Astley Cooper’s Year 13 students are going on to higher education and students studying more vocational options did equally well.
Head of Sixth Form Lucy Grayson said: “The results for  our vocational courses have been particularly pleasing especially in health and social care where all our students achieved a Distinction *.”
