A Hemel Hempstead mum is set to run the London Marathon to help keep communities safe from crime.

Office manager Lauren Leach will take on the world-famous 26.2-mile course for the charity Crimestoppers, which takes information about crime anonymously from members of the public.

Lauren, aged 33, said: “I chose Crimestoppers to help, in a small way, to try and stop crime.”

Lauren, who works for Intercard Ltd in Hemel, has hit 19 miles during her training, which involves three runs and one swim a week. She hopes to finish the race in four hours.

She said: “I think the best tip is to listen to your body and push yourself if you can but take that extra rest day if you feel you need it. I have done two half marathons to help with my training and got a personal best time with both, which was amazing.”

Lauren has nearly reached her fundraising target of £1,600, after her netball club, Connexions NC, raised £372 from a charity tournament.

She said: “I will be so nervous on the day and I have asked lots of family and friends to come and support and make sure they are spread out so I see people I know throughout the whole run. Just seeing everyone cheering me on will give me the boost I need – especially my little boy.”
