Man has arm amputated after hit and run in Hemel Hempstead

At around 10.25pm yesterday (Thursday March 2), a small white car collided with the man, who was working at a manhole on the roundabout between Marlowes and Combe Street.

The worker’s arm has been amputated as a result of the collision, which led to him falling into the manhole. The man, aged 46, was flown to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge by air ambulance, where he is currently believed to be in a serious but stable condition.

Police are now appealing for any garages who have repaired such a car overnight to come forward with information.

The vehicle is thought to have continued on in the direction of Leighton Buzzard Road and has not yet been traced by police. However officers believe the vehicle was damaged as a result of the collision.

Sgt Sam Cordingley, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit, said: “We have been unable to trace the vehicle or the driver as part of our enquiries thus far, however we believe the collision caused the car to leak oil as well as other damage to the bodywork.

“I would appeal to any garages or recovery agents who have been asked to repair an oil leak to a small white car since last night to get in touch as soon as possible. Or if you have any other information that might lead to the identification of the car or the driver, please contact police as soon as possible.”
