Young woman assulted at train station

Witnesses to a train station assault on a young woman are being urged to come forward by police.

A 19-year-old woman, who was getting off a train at Berkhamsted on Sunday, September 21, suffered extensive bruising to her hands and face after someone tried to snatch her bag.

The victim was travelling from Watford Station on a 21:40 train which pulled into Berkhamsted at 21:55.

As she got off on to the platform she was pushed and fell to the floor as the assailant unsuccessfully tried to get her bag.

Detective Constable Tony Ferris, investigating officer from British Transport Police said: "It is unclear as to whether the person who pushed the woman was a man or a woman, but we do know that there were a number of people both on the train and the platform around the time of the incident.

"We are urging anyone who may have information that could help us with our investigation to contact us as soon as possible."

The attacker is described as wearing a black hooded top with blue jeans, is 5'10, and of slim build.

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

All calls will be treated in confidence.
