Woman foils stairwell robber
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man tried to grab a woman's handbag at flats in Hemel Hempstead.
The incident happened at about 11pm on Tuesday (August 5) as a 19-year-old woman reached flats in Bennetts Gate.
As the woman entered the flats from Leys Road she walked past a man who then tried to grab her handbag as she started to climb the stairs.
A struggle is then alleged to have followed and the victim suffered bumps and bruises to her head and arms.
She managed to hold on to her bag however, before the offender made off empty handed.
Detective Constable Kevin Deudon said: "This was a despicable offence on a young woman who has been left shaken by the experience and this man must be caught."
The suspect is described as a black male.
