Will parking permits go ahead or not? Find out on Monday

editorial image

A decision on whether to draw up residents-only parking permits will be made in a meeting on Monday.

Berkhamsted Town Council has proposed that they be drawn up around the town’s train station and Charles Street to stop commuters’ cars clogging up residential streets.

But the plan has been criticised by businesses, who fear their staff will be left with nowhere to park, and householders, who fear they too will have fewer parking spaces.

A public consultation on the plan was held last month, and the for and against responses have been counted by the council’s clerk.

Councillors decided not to shell out cash to have the responses analysed externally.

Instead, straight after an emergency meeting of its transport and environment committee at 7pm on Monday, the full council will vote on whether the permits should go ahead.

The decision will then be ratified by Dacorum Borough Council.
