‘We’re all so proud of our Saracen star’

A former Berkhamsted School pupil has proved he is a rising star in rugby union circles by scoring one of the tries that put Saracens at the top of the Aviva Premiership on Sunday.

The team beat London Welsh 35-14 at Allianz Park – despite trailing 16-11 at half time.

Will Fraser, 23, helped turn it round along with fellow try-scorer Joel Tomkins.

Mum Fran, of Scatterdells Lane, Chipperfield, said: “I am very proud of him.

“He has worked very hard and committed himself through a few years of injury and he’s reaping the rewards now.

“He’s got three brothers and we are all very proud of him.”

Siblings Tom, 24, Henry, 21, and Dominic, 17, are all rugby mad.

Dom will compete with Dulwich College in the cup final of the Daily Mail RBS Schools Competition on March 23.

Henry, Will and Dominic have all been part of the Saracens’ elite player development group.

Henry, who went to Berkhamsted School with Will, had a promising career ahead of him – until a freak accident left him paralysed from the shoulders down.

During a 2009 holiday to Portugal, aged just 17, Henry dived into the surf – and his spine was crushed after he hit his head on the sea bed.

Henry, now 21, recently became an ambassador for the Matt Hampson Foundation, which helps young people who have been seriously injured through sport.

He also writes a blog about seven-aside rugby in schools and universities for the website www.inattheside.com

A trust has been set up to help Henry have an independent future. To learn more, visit www.henryfraser.org
